The Welcome Flat Hut is one of the most visited huts in New Zealand. Most hikers don´t mind to walk 18 km to reach their goal. The natural hot pools seems to act like a treat. Many swingbridges to cross make the walk varied. With 31 bunks the hut is manly all year around well booked. The first intension was to cross the mountains over to Mt. Cook Village from the weatcoast. Mountaineers had a bivy not far from where the hut is in these days. For their crossing along the Copland river first pioneers Mattais Zubriggen and Edward Fitzgerald completed it via the Copland Pass in February 1895. Since the early 20th century the hut has been attacted people from all places.
